Juventus, Agnelli and the Board of Directors resign

On the evening of Monday 28 November, the entire Board of Directors of Juventus resigned. Shocking news for the whole world of Italian football, but this news quickly made the rounds of Europe. And while the Juventus fans are wondering who will replace Agnelli as president of the team, even if it seems certain that the president will be Gianluca Ferrero, a very heavy press release arrives from Spain from La Liga asking Serie A and UEFA to punish Juventus who have admitted to have violated the rules.

The Spanish Liga goes on the attack and therefore asks to adopt sanctions against Juventus and officially does so by addressing UEFA and Serie A. Calling for immediate sanctions. In the past, La Liga has already been the protagonist of a duel at the tip of the foil with Juventus and some teams that had joined the Super League project, but it had also attacked Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain last April.

This is the text of the long letter published on the official account of the Spanish League: “Following the resignation of the Juventus board of directors in the late evening of Monday 28 November, La Liga is calling for the immediate application of sporting sanctions to the club. La Liga had already filed an official complaint against Juventus in April 2022 with UEFA alleging violations of the financial fair play regulation which the Italian Guardia di Finanza was investigating.

Beppe Marotta had understood what was about to happen in Juventus (and was removed)

Specifically, in that complaint, La Liga accused Juventus of accounting for transfers above the real valuation and of underestimating personnel expenses, which constitutes a breach of UEFA’s financial fair play. Furthermore, the complaint accused Juventus of hiding the true salary of its players.

This Monday, in the same note issued by the Board of Directors, the representatives of Juve acknowledge very serious financial accounting irregularities, also aimed at deceiving the competent financial fair play authorities of UEFA, among others. La Liga, with the aim of promoting an economically viable football in Europe, make this complaint against Juventus and requests that the competent authorities apply immediate sporting sanctions to the club.

La Liga has long been a major proponent of establishing and enforcing strict financial sustainability rules in football. In April of this year, La Liga has filed a complaint against Juventus for a violation of financial fair play against UEFAbut also against Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain.

The same Spanish competition enforced its “economic control” rules for almost a decade, at the request of the clubs that make up La Liga. Financial sustainability is essential to protect the football business. Let’s protect our football.”
