The resurrection of Mercedes in Formula 1 at the hands of George Russell

George Russell led this afternoon the resurrection of the Mercedes team by unquestionably winning the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prixtwenty-first season of the annual calendar of the discipline that took place at the traditional Interlagos racetrack, in São Paulo.

In his 81st career start in the world’s top motorsport division, the 24-year-old British driver from Norfolk County established a slight advantage over his teammate and compatriot, Lewis Hamilton, who arrived in second place and guaranteed the dominance of the German brand during the weekend at the José Carlos Pace circuit.

Russell had started in pole position in the race that lasted 71 laps, after winning the so-called Sprint race (24 laps) on Saturday afternoon, prevailing over the Spanish Carlos Sainz (Ferrari).

Precisely, the driver from Madrid completed the podium today and placed third, ahead of his teammate, the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), who starred in a meritorious comeback from eighteenth place.

The Mercedes team thus returned to victory in Formula 1, after 22 competitionsnot celebrating with the checkered flag from Hamilton’s distant lead at the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton has one race left to maintain the record of at least one win in each of the seasons he has played since making his debut in 2007. To do this, he must win at the Abu Dhabi circuit.

The fifth place was in the hands of the Spanish Fernando Alonso (Alpine), the Dutchman and current world champion, Max Verstappen (Red Bull), ranked sixth, while Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) arrived in seventh, who was equaled in second place in the World Drivers Championship by Leclerc.

Frenchman Esteban Ocon (Alpine) finished in eighth place, Finn Valtteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo) finished ninth and Canadian Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) finished tenth and scored the last available point.

The winner of the competition, which used a total time of 1h. 38m. 34s. 044/1000, he also set the lap record (1m. 13s. 685/1000) and earned an additional point for his harvest.
