FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, a controversial worlddossier

French striker Nkunku has to give up playing the World Cup after being injured in training on Tuesday. Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani has been called up as a replacement.

But where will the France team stop with injuries? This time, it is striker Christopher Nkunku who is forfeited for the World Cup, whose inaugural match takes place on Sunday in Qatar. On Monday, defender Presnel Kimpembe announced that he would not participate in the competition.

After two days of gathering at the Clairefontaine training center (Yvelines), mainly dedicated to recovery, the Blues get to the heart of the matter on Wednesday, with their departure for Doha.

Nkunku was injured in training on Tuesday and the medical verdict was soon in. “The radiological examinations taken in the evening unfortunately revealed that it was a sprain”, announced the French Football Federation (FFF).

Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani has been called up as Nkunku’s replacement. “Currently in Japan with his club”, Kolo Muani “will join the France team in Doha on Thursday morning”, specified the FFF. At 23, the former Nantes player had his first two selections in September.

Update at 9:05 a.m. with the name of the replacement.
