World number one Swiatek opens in Bad Homburg
The makers of the Bad Homburg Open are already working on the field of participants for next year. The first commitment comes from the world number one Iga Swiatek.
The Bad Homburg Open have won the first prominent name for the third edition next year. With Iga Swiatek, the world number one comes to Hesse for its premiere appearance, as the organizers announced on Tuesday. The tennis tournament will take place next year from June 24th to July 1st.
“The perfect preparation for Wimbledon”
“I’ve heard so many good things about the Bad Homburg Open. Especially when it comes to the fans and the atmosphere on Center Court,” said the reigning French and US Open winner from Poland. The 21-year-old collected a total of eight tournament wins this year and won an impressive 67 out of 76 games.
“For me, the Bad Homburg Open is the perfect preparation for Wimbledon,” explained Swiatek their participation in the coming year. So far, the young Pole has only been able to win the tournament in London in the junior category. With the right mood in Hesse, there could perhaps be a premiere victory in Wimbledon in 2023.
This year Caroline Garcia won in Bad Hamburg. In the final, the French prevailed against Bianca Andreescu from Canada in three hard-fought sets. The home tournament was anything but ideal for the top German players: Andrea Petkovic failed in the first round. For defending champion Angelique Kerber and Sabine Lisicki it was over in the quarterfinals.
