Spain “is leader in the group of death”, positive Luis Enrique

Luis Enrique (Spain coach, hung 1-1 by Germany on Sunday in al-Khor for the second day of the 2022 World Cup, in a post-match press conference): “It’s a weird feeling… We had the possibility to beat Germany to pave the way to qualification, and that makes this moment sad… But you have to think about the position in which you find yourself (first of group E, Editor’s note). We are at the top. You have to stay positive. It’s like a little disappointment, but if we’re honest, we could have lost this game too. The result is correct. Admittedly, we lacked finesse and a bit of freshness throughout the match. In the first half, we created more chances than our opponent, but the second was more sluggish. When we managed to get ahead, Germany started to give everything, and we couldn’t stay calm to lead the game where we wanted. We are good at what we know how to do, but if we play something else, we get lost. We must remain positive: we are leaders in the group of death. We depend on ourselves. And even if a draw will probably be enough, we will do everything to win against Japan.»
