Satisfying performance in badminton for Voyageurs

The Voyageurs rackets from Cégep de Sept-Îles were on the courts on Sunday for the second singles tournament of the college badminton season in the Centre-du-Québec conference. Coach Alex Couture said he was very satisfied with the performances of his protégés on the Victoriaville side.

In men’s division 1, Jérémie Stea was playing his first tournament since his left leg Achilles tendon injury suffered last April… in Victoriaville.

First in his group in the preliminaries thanks to three victories in four games, he emerged victorious in the first elimination round, but had to admit defeat, in three sets, in the quarter-finals.

Alex Couture spoke of great performances for Stea given the “compromises he had to make, as he is not yet 100% recovered from his injury. This tournament was intended to serve as a test and refresher for him. »

In the same division, Olivier Dion, who won his three pool games, saw his road stop in the quarter-finals. As for Jacob Perron, he was unable to make the playoffs, posting a record of one win and two losses in the preliminaries.

In Division 1 girls, Alyson Tessier, 3-1 in group matches, was eliminated in the semi-finals.

Perfect in the preliminaries with a 4-0 record, Alyson Dufour lost in the Women’s Division 2 final in three sets. For her part, Léa Trainaud (3-1) withdrew from the playoffs due to right shoulder pain.

Among the men, it was a little more difficult for the Voyageurs Drew Pike and Charles Philippe with records of 0-3 and 1-3 respectively, insufficient to advance to the round of 16.

“The athletes played up to their level,” summarized the coach, satisfied with the performance in general.

The next tournament for the Cégep de Sept-Îles badminton team is scheduled for January 28 in Granby. This will be the second mixed doubles tournament of the season.
