Sadio Mane Completely Absent from the 2022 World Cup!

Jakarta

Sadio Mane is confirmed to be completely absent from the 2022 World Cup. The injury is more severe than expected and needs to be treated surgically.

At first it was said that Mane would only be absent in Senegal’s first matches, especially against the Netherlands, Monday (21/11/2022) evening WIB. The reason is that the 30-year-old player needs time to recover from a knee injury he suffered while defending his club, Bayern Munich, against Werder Bremen on November 8.

But apparently an MRI scan revealed that the injury needed to be treated surgically. The operation has also been carried out in Innsbruck, according to an announcement from Bayern Munich.

During the operation, Sadio Mane’s torn tendon was successfully reattached to the head of the fibula bone.

The surgical procedure will not allow Mane to appear at the 2022 World Cup. In the next few days, the former Liverpool striker will begin his knee rehabilitation process.

“Unfortunately, today’s (Thursday) MRI scan showed that his progress was not as we had envisioned and unfortunately we have to exclude Sadio from the World Cup,” said Senegal team doctor Manuel Afonso. Eurosport.

Mane is an important figure in the Senegal national team. The two-time African Footballer of the Year has recorded 92 caps with 33 goals and led the Teranga Lions to win the 2021 African Cup.
