Revenues in the billions: FIFA collects like never before – national teams

The World Football Association (FIFA) has achieved record income with the contracts for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

With the agreements from a total of four years, 7.25 billion euros were pocketed with the major event in the desert state. FIFA President Gianni Infantino also announced a net result of almost one billion euros during a meeting of the national associations on Sunday.

“We can immediately reinvest these funds into football, starting now and for the next cycle, to make football grow even more globally,” Infantino said, according to a FIFA statement.

The revenue corresponds to an increase of around one billion euros compared to the previous four-year cycle for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. According to the news agency AP the FIFA reserves rose to 2.4 billion euros.

“We are united in our quest to advance football around the world. Together with all 211 member federations and with all confederations we will continue to work together and create great things in the next four years,” Infantino was quoted as saying.
