Radio Marca Lanzarote – Lanzarote judo wins 4 medals in the Canary Islands Championship

The Costa Teguise Judo Club traveled to Gran Canaria to contest the senior category championship

  • The Costa Teguise Lanzarote Judo Club traveled a few days ago to play the Senior Canary Islands Championship to the Ciudad Deportiva de Gran Canaria where it once again starred an important role bringing several medals to Lanzarote.

    The most important of the medals was gold, achieved by Rubén Rodríguez Pérez in the senior category of less than seventy-three kilos, being the second consecutive year that the club has repeated the award. The judoka defeated Carlos Gutiérrez from Akari-Las Nieves in the final, leaving in the third step of the podium of his category to Efren Roque Arencibia and Jose Antonio Lopez Rodriguez of the Villasclaras.

    Three other athletes from the Teguiseño club won a medal in the regional championship. Eleonora Gonella and Matti Drummond took the bronze medal as did Sergio Agudo. Gonella was in third place after Alejandra Rodríguez from Bushican and the winner Zuleima from Carmen Falcón Sánchez from Akari-Las Nieves. For his part, Matti Drummond was only beaten on the podium by Nira González from Akari-Las Nieves and the eventual winner Ainoa Salazar Ramos from Granadilla. In the men’s category Sergio Agudo was in third place behind Yone Morales from Granadilla and the winner Michael Hernández Santana from Akari-Las Nieves.

    With four medals obtained in this Senior Canary Islands Championshipthe Costa Teguise Lanzarote Judo Club considers that it is a positive balance, above all, considering that, for the second consecutive year, the club repeats the highest award in the senior category of less than seventy-three kilos.
