Rackets at $4 million and balls at $260,000: new cost overruns in Santander

A new controversy over cost overruns surrounds Santander again these days, it is a millionaire contract worth $499 million, signed between the Departmental Institute of Recreation and Sports (Indersantander) and the Agricultural and Environmental Technical Solutions Corporation (Sotea), which apparently has irregularities in the acquisition of supplies to play tennis.

Emiro Arias, inspector in charge of denouncing the inconsistencies around the contract, indicated that for its execution, 15 tennis rackets were acquired, each for a value close to $4 million and balls that cost around $260,000 each.

“Some terribly inflated costs of the supplies provided and in the case of Indersantander outsourcing the linking of sports professionals to train boys, girls and adolescents in taekwondo and tennis where they acquire 15 rackets, each worth $3,870,000 and balls. of tennis for a value of $258,000, when commercially reviewing these balls they do not exceed $40,000”, assured Arias.

The observer also added that within the contract some training for sports professionals worth $70 million is estimated.

Let us remember that a similar controversy was also unleashed in the department due to the cost overruns for breakfasts, lunches, transportation and the rental of rooms for holding events by the Government of Santander, services that are part of a contract signed for $3,000 million. However, what has attracted the most attention was the possible purchase of hamburgers at $87,000 for special lunches.
