NBA: Spurs slide into historic home bankruptcy

NBA

After five wins in the first seven games of the season, the San Antonio Spurs slipped into the heaviest home loss in their National Basketball Association (NBA) history on Wednesday (local time). The still weakened Texans lost to the Toronto Raptors with 100:143. San Antonio conceded the previously highest bankruptcy in front of their own audience in 2021 with a 37-point difference against the Phoenix Suns.

The Spurs had to give up two players from their usual starting lineup with the injured Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell. 27 seconds before the end of the first quarter, Jakob Pöltl provided a 32:31 lead with two points. At the break, however, San Antonio was confronted with a 49:64 deficit. After that, all the dams broke, and Toronto scored almost at will after a change of sides.

Keita Bates-Diop scored 17 points for San Antonio as the top pitcher. “They were the best team we’ve played this season and a good test for us,” said Bates-Diop. Pöltl recorded against his former club with six points and rebounds, two assists and one block in 20:40 minutes. At Toronto, Pascal Siakam stood out with a triple-double. The Cameroonian recorded 22 points, eleven assists and ten rebounds. The Spurs meet the LA Clippers in their fourth home game in a row on Friday.
