Latvia wins 19 awards at the World Youth Championship in 100-square checkers

The world championship for youth in 100 checkers has ended in the Turkish city of Antalya. The championship took place in three disciplines – classic, fast checkers and quick game.

At the beginning, from October 29 to November 4, the championship took place in the classicwhere representatives of nineteen countries took part and young Latvians competed excellently, winning four gold and two silver medals.

In the latest U8 group for girls, in which 8 participants from 5 countries competed, convincingly won the 1st place with 100% result 14 points out of 14 possible Alice Misane. Received the silver award with 10 points in this group Ramona Serpane. For the silver award in the U8 age group for boys, where 19 participants from 6 countries competed, with 14 points out of 18 possible Toms Andersons. In the U10 group for girls, in which 17 participants from 8 countries competed, with 15 points out of 18 possible, she became the world champion Barbarian Ivanova. In the U13 group for girls, in which 28 participants from 13 countries took part, with 14 points out of 18 possible, the world champion title Malvina Misana. On the other hand, in the U13 group for boys, in which 22 participants from 9 countries took part, with the won 14 points out of 18, they became the world champion Pēteris Kripans. It should also be noted Arvo Krebes success, who won 5th place in the U10 group for boys, Valdas Vasarietes won 4th place in the U16 group for girls and Klava Norenberg 7th place in the U16 group for boys. The results presented in this discipline allowed Latvia to win the second place among the national teams of 19 countries in the team evaluation.

In the championship in rapid checkers, which took place on November 5 and a total of 203 participants from 17 countries competed, Latvian youth won eight awards – two gold, two silver and four bronze. In the youngest U8 group for girls, in which 9 participants took part, they convincingly won 1st place with 15 points out of 16 possible Alice Misane. In the same group for boys, where 19 participants started, with 11 points out of 18 possible, 3rd place To Tom Anderson. In the U10 group for girls, in the competition of 16 participants, with the obtained 14 points out of 18 possible, the title of world vice-champion Varvarai Ivanovai. 3rd place in the U10 group for boys, where 18 participants participated, with 10 points out of 16 possible Maksim Novitzki. In the U13 group for girls, 30 participants won 3rd place with 12 points out of 18 possible Malvine Misane. On the other hand, in the U13 group for boys, in which 23 participants participated, Pēteris Kripans became the world champion in fast checkers with 15 points out of 18. Excellent results also in the U16 age group, where, with 28 girls starting, with 14 points out of 18 possible, they were on the third step of the podium. On the other hand On November 6, the world championship took place in the fast game, where 200 participants from 16 countries took part. Latvian youth managed to win five awards in this championship – one gold, two silver and two bronze. In the youngest U8 group for girls, in which 9 participants took part, with 13 points out of 16 possible, they won 2nd place Ramona Serpane and 3rd place with 12 points Alice Misane. 3rd place in the U8 group for boys, where 19 participants started, with 13 points out of 18 possible To Tom Anderson. In the U10 group for girls, in the competition of 16 participants, with the obtained 11 points out of 16 possible, the title of world vice champion Varvarai Ivanovai. In the U13 group for boys, in which 23 participants took part, with the obtained 13 points out of 18, they became the world champion in the fast game Pēteris Kripans. It should be noted that Pēteris also won the championship with classical time control and fast checkers. The presented results in quick game and quick checkers allowed Latvia to win the second place among the national teams of 17 countries in the team evaluation.
