DENVER, Colo. (AP) — Julius Randle hit a season-high 34 points and the New York Knicks took advantage of Nikola Jokic’s absence to win in Denver for the first time in 16 years, with a comeback Wednesday night. which gave them victory over the Nuggets 106-103.
Randle broke a tie with 50.6 seconds remaining by making one of two free throws. Jalen Brunson had 21 points, including two free throws with 10.5 seconds remaining.
For the second night in a row, the Knicks handed their rival their first home victory this season after winning Tuesday in Utah. With Denver’s loss, there are no unbeaten home teams left in the NBA.
Jokic, current League Most Valuable Player, was left off the field on Tuesday due to protocols against COVID-19.
Jamal Murray scored 21 points for Denver, but went just 7 of 20 from the field and his desperate 3-point attempt at the buzzer missed the rim.
Bones Hyland returned from his COVID-19 protocol leave and also had 21 points for the Nuggets, who were outscored 8-0 late in the game. Denver has won nine in a row against New York. They had not lost in Colorado to the Knicks since November 8, 2006.
