Shohei Ohno

The All Japan Judo Federation (Judo Ren) announced on the 28th that Shohei Ono, who has won two consecutive Olympic titles in the men’s 73-kg class, will miss the Grand Slam (GS) Tokyo tournament (December 3 and 4) due to poor conditioning. The tournament is one of the qualifying events for the World Championships (Doha) in May next year, and it became difficult to enter the national team.

Through the All Japan Judo Federation, Ohno commented, “I did my best to prepare for the tournament in order to meet the expectations, but I couldn’t build up the mind and body to fight as a representative of Japan.”

Since the Tokyo Olympics last summer, 30-year-old Ohno has participated in the All Japan Championships in April, which is open weight competition, but has not returned to competition in his own weight class.
