GENOA – Everything starts from the desire for inclusion and knowledge. At the Sandro Pertini state high school in via Cesare Battisti in Genoa for the whole school year 2021/2022, in collaboration with the Paralympic Committee of Liguria (Cip), the badminton project which involved over 700 young people, 30 of whom with disabilities actively participate in training and matches between fun and sport.

The head teacher carried out the initiative Alessandro Cavanna with teachers Luca Cordano, Cristina Barbera, Laura Patrignani, Riccardo Lodi and Andrea Anzillotti.

A school particularly attentive to the issues of disability, inclusion and overcoming of architectural barriers that welcomes several students with disabilities in its classrooms. To crown the initiative the presence of the Paralympic swimming champion Francesco Bocciardo who met the boys of the institute bearing his testimony.

“It was a good moment – explain the teachers of motor science and sports who carried out the initiative -. Francesco told the children his story, the difficulties that the disability has put in front of him but above all he showed the students. the strength to react that allowed him to achieve exceptional results from a sporting point of view and not only. From the boys many questions have come up on the subject of disability and daily life. They have also been able to see for themselves the strength of this boy who represents symbol of those who with work, dedication and strength of character have overcome the obstacles that faced them. Seeing the medals that Francesco won at the Tokyo Paralympics left the students truly speechless “they conclude.

Now the goal of the Sandro Pertini state high school in Genoa is to continue the initiative in order to allow more and more young people, disabled and not, to get closer to sports.t seen as a basic and fundamental element to allow a full inclusion, sociability and affirmation of oneself within a society that still shows gaps in the attention to be paid to people with disabilities. “The school is a very important point of reference. It is from here that inclusion and social battles must start to allow all children to affirm themselves and feel included and active in today’s society” explains the president of Cip Liguria Cuozzo.
