In the rematch, the home team had to deal with an extended team, to which the attackers Smoleňák, Zachar and Pavlík were added compared to the first duel. Although Färjestad played the opening game, he hit the post twice under tremendous pressure and the Czech participant turned the score of the doubleheader in the eighth minute: Provisional captain Kevin Klíma scored from a breakaway, Cingeľ scored from a power play.
Despite the game activity, the reigning champion of the Swedish competition was troubled by a very imprecise ending. In addition, defender Tornberg hesitated in the middle of the game and Pilař, who scored his first competitive goal of the season, made it 3:0 on a counterattack.
However, the visitors dramatized the round of 16 when Lawner beat goalkeeper Kiviah for the first time before the end of the second half. Mountfield then added another effort, but even the lone Lion could not increase their narrowest lead and instead equalized on the 54th minute from Lindqvist’s power play.
The winner was thus determined only after extra time, in which Cingeľ prevailed after a number of opportunities on both sides. Mountfield will face the better of the pair Zug – Munich in the quarter-finals. The first match was won by the Swiss team with striker Jan Kovář in the lineup 5:1. The rematch in the Bavarian capital will take place on Wednesday.
