That would have been a transfer cracker!

Hainer also explains which factors make FC Bayern a particularly interesting club for top stars.

Before the move to Manchester City was certain, there was a lot of speculation about the transfer of Erling Haaland. Almost every big club in the world has been linked with the Norwegian top striker. So does FC Bayern.

In an interview with the Bayern media group, Hainer spoke about the Premier League top scorer. The Bayern President said: “Haaland is interesting for every top club in the world and we had the best chances alongside Manchester City.”

He also explained what Bayern Haaland could have offered, which is not necessarily the case with other clubs: “Compared to other top international clubs, we may have fewer financial opportunities, but we can score points throughout Europe through our identity,” said Hainer: “With us players get their salary on time and are treated like family. We also offer perspectives on titles, which is what matters most to players.”

Haaland ultimately decided against Bayern and for Manchester City. In the Premier League he has scored a sensational 18 goals in twelve games. On the other hand, Munich gave Robert Lewandowski (34) to FC Barcelona in the summer. The courtship of Haaland had disappointed the top Polish striker because he was a world footballer and Bayern’s goal insurance company (344 goals in 375 Bayern games).

A direct replacement for Lewandowski was not committed. Nevertheless, Bayern have been convincing on the offensive recently – also because of striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (33).

The Cameroonian has been a seed at Bayern since mid-October, before that the record champions had a much harder time and, among other things, went without a win in four Bundesliga games in a row. This also shows “how flexible and willing to develop” coach Julian Nagelsmann (35) is, said Hainer: “He recognized that he had to change something in this phase and installed Choupo-Moting as a center forward.”

In the beginning, Sadio Mané (30/for 32 million euros from Liverpool) was planned as a nine replacement for Lewandowski. But the project failed, the Senegalese (currently torn tendon on the head of the right fibula) was pulled onto the left wing and Choupo-Moting was used in the starting XI.
