Goalkeeping coach Edwin Lemmens returns to Devils staff after Operation Zero settlement

Placed under the status of non-active since last January, the goalkeeper coach of the Red Devils Erwin Lemmens has been reinstated in the staff of Roberto Martinez. Lemmens has reached an amicable agreement under Operation Zero, the Belgian Football Union (URBSFA) announced on Wednesday.

URBSFA was informed by Erwin Lemmens that he has reached an amicable agreement, on the proposal of the federal prosecutor’s office, within the framework of Operation Zero. Therefore, Erwin Lemmens can and will re-office with immediate effect as goalkeeper coach within the technical staff of the Red Devils during the World Cup in Qatar.“, specified the URBSFA which will not make any other comment.

Erwin Lemmens, 46, was on the list of 56 individuals referred to the criminal court by the prosecution as part of the investigation into suspected fraud in Belgian football. The drafting of Lemmens’ contract with the Belgian Union had been tainted with irregularity, revealed the players’ agent of Dejan Veljkovic last winter.

While Lemmens was inactive, Robert Martinez only worked with Inaki Bergara, the other goalkeeping coach on his staff. Since his appointment, the national coach has chosen to work with two goalkeeper coaches.
