Girona FC: Five point cushion over relegation

Girona will have a quiet holiday. The First Division league stops until December 30-31 for the World Cup match, and after having played the first 14 days, Míchel’s team is doing their homework, out of relegation, and with five cushion points with respect to the relegation positions in Second. The victory against Elche on Tuesday (1-2) marked a good harvest of 8 of the last 12 points (draws with Madrid and Osasuna, and victories against Athletic and at Martínez Valero), which have propelled the team into the classification. Not so long ago this same Girona occupied relegation places and was a strainer in defense.

Cadiz’s defeat at the Bernabéu (2-1) left the Andalusians with 11 points. The same as Sevilla, who had fallen at home against Real Sociedad on Wednesday. Both teams are now relegating, with Celta and Espanyol narrowly escaping (12) from these dangerous positions. Elx, with 4 points, is very sunk.

Míchel will give, after Sunday’s Cup game in Quintanar del Rey, fifteen days of vacation and then the players will meet again for a pre-season. The competition will resume on December 30-31 in Montilivi against Rayo. There will be five games left to finish the first round, because after that will come Espanyol, Sevilla, Villarreal and Barça.

On the other hand, Osasuna will also take advantage of these World Cup days to stay in Santa Coloma from December 9 to 14. They will train in Riudarenes and play two friendlies in Palamós against Lorient and Stade Brestois.
