Given the discomfort of the fans, Gil Marín has asked for unity, the “great strength” of this club and, although he has recognized that what happened this season “has been a failure”, he has blamed the poor performance of the squad on the World Cup in Qatar , which begins this month. “The demand must continue to be maximum, but we must understand that this atypical season, starting with a World Cup, with what this entails for most players, is logically altering the performance of a squad of this level,” he justifies.
In his opinion, some events that have nothing to do with football have contributed to the tense atmosphere of the fans, such as the crisis, inflation or the war, for which he asks the Atléticos «that no external factor disunite us instead to strengthen our ties.
Objective: the Cup
“Although the disappointment of this edition is great, we cannot lose sight of the general perspective,” he insists.
