Friendly matches – World Cup: Germany struggles to overcome Oman (1-0)

Germany is not reassured before the World Cup. In difficulty, the Mannschaft still overcame Oman 1-0 on Wednesday in Muscat. Niclas Füllkrug, the Werder Bremen striker saved the Nationalmannschaft by scoring the only goal of the match in the 80th minute, giving Hansi Flick, his coach, an additional attacking option ahead of the World Cup.

For the rest, and in a team heavily reworked compared to the last meetings of Germany, no one really stood out in the eyes of the coach to shake up the hierarchy and hope to start the first match against Japan. In Muscat, in a climate close to that of Qatar, Flick was still able to launch Youssoufa Moukoko, who will turn 18 on November 20, the day of the first match of the World Cup, on the international scene.

The young striker from Borussia Dortmund, surprise from the German list, was nervous for his first selection but almost opened the scoring, his shot hitting the post at the very end of the first period (45th + 1). Facing Japan in a week, Flick should trust the heavyweights of his selection: Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Süle or Thomas Müller, all left to rest against Oman.
