The dispute between a German entrepreneur and a Qatar sheikh is entering the next round. And this time, even the families of Argentina stars are affected!
With his company Khaya, Volkhard Bauer rents out accommodation for sporting events and has also signed several hotels and apartments in Qatar.
Among other things: eight hotels of a Qatar sheikh. One of them was the “Velero”. Bauer’s company paid the equivalent of around 4 million euros for the 5-star hotel with 240 beds.
He revealed it on the PK: Flick had a yellow card plan for the bandage!

But a month ago, the sheikh suddenly sold the Velero – and since then has refused to pay back the down payment (plus 5% contractual penalty).
Instead, he keeps putting pressure on Bauer and Khaya in new ways. Threatened to cancel the other contracts. At times, his hotels would not let Khaya customers check in. Only after extra payments were the guests allowed into their rooms.
The latest trick: The front desk now charges 250 US dollars (approx. 243 euros) for an extra bed. Per night, mind you!
World Cup tourists from Japan, Ghana and Mexico have felt this since November 20th. In the Horizon Manor hotel, the situation got completely out of control. When the manager of the hotel, which also belongs to the sheikh’s group, realized that his receptionists had forgotten to charge for six extra beds, he is said to have gone mad.
And immediately arranged for the extra beds to be taken out of the rooms again – until the bill was settled. According to the Mexicans’ travel agency, one of the beds was still occupied. The guest had to get up and the bed was taken away.
And the sheikh and his assistants also took on the Argentinian players’ wives. When checking in at the posh hotel “Waterfront”, the hotel employees insisted on the extra payment. In order to avoid further embarrassment in front of Frau di Maria and Co., the Argentinian travel agency stepped in and paid for the extra beds.
Bauer: “I’ve never experienced anything like Qatar! We are being blackmailed here.”
He could sue in a Qatari court, but the process would drag on for years.
Another example that shows Qatar just does what they want. Even during the WM.
