Feyenoord icon Cor van der Gijp (91) passed away | Football

Van der Gijp, together with Coen Moulijn and Henk Schouten, formed a very feared vanguard of Feyenoord for years. The trio played together from the mid-1950s to 1963, a period in which the striker managed to score no fewer than 177 times. This makes Van der Gijp Feyenoord’s top scorer of all time and he had, among other things, a large share in the national titles of 1961 and 1962, Feyenoord reports on its site.

Van der Gijp wore the shirt of the Dutch national team thirteen times. He scored six international goals.

Born in Dordrecht, Van der Gijp played with Emma in his youth and came to Feyenoord in the summer of 1955. A knee injury meant that he could only make his debut with the Rotterdam team in 1956.

After his football career, Van der Gijp, an uncle of former player and TV analyst René van der Gijp, became trainer of Veendam and FC Dordrecht, among others. He was also technical director of Feyenoord for a short time.

City derby with mourning tires

Feyenoord will reflect on the death of its club top scorer of all time at the city derby with Excelsior on Sunday. A minute of silence will be held prior to the match, while the team of trainer Arne Slot will also play with mourning bands.
