EVENT – García and Bournigal win gold and bronze in Panama judo

Diego García and Ernesto Bournigal won a gold and a bronze medal at the U-13 and U-15 Pan American Judo Championships held in Panama City this weekend.

García obtained the gold medal by defeating the Brazilian Gustavo Alves in the final under 44 kilos in the men’s sub-15. The bronze in the specialty was shared by Higen Castillo, from the United States, and Eliot Pullaguary, from Ecuador.

In the first fight, García defeated Ángel Llanes, from Mexico, while in the semifinal he defeated the Ecuadorian Pullaguary.

Bournigal, on the other hand, won bronze by beating Josué Murillo, from Ecuador, in the repechage match in the men’s minus 42 kilos test of the U-13 category.

The gold medal in the specialty went to Isaque Cruz, from Brazil, who defeated Gabriel Laxamana, from the United States, in the final. The other bronze went to Daniel Lima, from the United States.

In addition to García and Bournigal, the children’s team was made up of Ezequiel Pérez, in the 34 kilos; Karla Tolentino, in the 44 kilograms, and Carlos Pérez, in more than 64 kilos for men, as well as the coach Víctor Jacinto.

Dominican referees also took part in the contest Mindry Marte and Ramon Santiago.

As part of the competition program, the top national judo teams also take part in the Central American and Caribbean Cup, qualifying for the multi-sport event that will take place next year in El Salvador.
