Esteban Ocon lashes out at Alonso’s departure: “I did 98 percent of the work”

Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon seemed to get along well with the Alpine team for a long time, although there seemed to be little left of that at the end of their collaboration. The French driver is now sneering at his colleague who has left for Aston Martin and argues that Alonso did not do much work at all with the team.

The last part of the collaboration between Alonso and Ocon did not get along between the two. It actually mainly went wrong during the sprint race of the Grand Prix of São Paulo. The French team saw Ocon and Alonso collide early in the race, which caused the Frenchman a lot of damage and Alonso also had to go in for some repairs.

Gossip in the media

In the end, the Spanish driver crossed the line in fifteenth, while Ocon had to make do with a disappointing P18. To make matters worse, the Frenchman’s car also caught fire after the race and so the disaster day seemed complete. The Spaniard in particular was not pleased with the behavior of his teammate and he was therefore critical. This all led to team boss Otmar Szafnauer saying in the media that he was disappointed in his drivers.

All work in the simulator

Alonso has now left the racing stable and that brings joy to Ocon. “Of course I was disappointed by his comments and that he made them in the media rather than internally,” he told Ouest France” href=”https://www.ouest-france.fr/sport/formule-1/esteban-ocon/interview-ocon-pierre-gasly-la-premiere-fois-qu-il-est-monte-dans- a-kart-it-was-mine-0eb5e61a-6ce9-11ed-b8cb-853622caf17b” target=”_blank”>West France. “We haven’t talked about it anymore. I’ll keep the respect for him I already had, but it’s good that he’s leaving for Aston Martin and we’re both going our separate ways.” Then Ocon makes a remarkable revelation. “Honestly, I did 98 percent of the work and he did two percent. I was overworked and did all the development on the simulator,” he grumbles.
