In the Bundesliga, Eintracht Frankfurt played TSG Hoffenheim at times. 1899 defended itself effectively at times, but the SGE offensive was too strong in terms of play.
So on Wednesday evening (November 9th, 2022) a 4: 2 (3: 1) home win for Frankfurt was on the scoreboard. Especially in the first half hour, 1899 lacked access. Although Christoph Baumgartner scored the first goal (38th) with the third TSG shot on goal, Frankfurt had already celebrated extensively. Djibril Sow (6th) scored first, then the powerful Randal Kolo Muani (8th), who also hung up for Eric Dina Ebimbe (29th) and later Jesper Lindström (56th).
Götze, Knauff and Lindström push on
The hosts cracked TSG early and often from the outside positions. In the 3-4-2-1, Mario Götze was in the tenth position, Ansgar Knauff pushed in on the left, and Lindström on the right moved up to striker Kolo Muani when he had the ball.
And that worked. Because Lindstrom, who won more than 80 percent of his offensive tackles in the first half, forced a mistake from Eduardo Quaresma, whereupon Sow scored the lead a few seconds later. Because TSG goalkeeper Oliver Baumann let a Lindström shot deflect forward, Kolo Muani immediately made it 2-0.
SGE’s rapid two-goal lead had an effect on TSG. She was deeply affected after this double blow. 1899 had problems opening the game, didn’t develop a pace and didn’t have a confident body language.
Baumgartner fuels hope at Hoffenheim
After 17 minutes, the reigning Europa League winner had already fired five shots on goal, Hoffenheim one. And it only needed goal number six for the third SGE celebration. Dina Ebimbe was staged by Kolo Muani.
However, Hoffenheim’s Baumgartner raised hope again: the Austrian benefited from a high ball from Angelino. Kabak passed on in the penalty area, Baumgartner thanked.
Kabak shocked Frankfurt after the restart
Despite the blemish, the Frankfurt fireworks visibly satisfied both coach Glasner and the fans. However, after the break, SGE was reminded that the game was anything but over.
Robert Skov initiated the first attack, nobody felt responsible for Kabak. And SGE goalkeeper Trapp was like in the wrong movie when the long-range shot hit, whereupon the German national keeper vented about the passivity of his front men.
Kolo Muani best provider of assists in the Bundesliga
Suddenly it was Hoffenheim’s turn again, Frankfurt had to sort themselves out. But the SBU stayed cool. Kolo Muani boosted the Bundesliga record for assists to nine with his assist for Lindström – 4-2 for Frankfurt. He drew level with Bayern’s Jamal Musiala in the league’s top scorer list (13).
Daichi Kamada hit the bar (58th). After another fantastic move from Frankfurt with a Götze pass and a Lindström heel-heel, Dina Ebimbe shot very delicately past the post (67th). The SGE win could have been bigger.
Hoffenheim vs. Wolfsburg, Frankfurt vs. Mainz
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim hosts VfL Wolfsburg on Matchday 15 (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.). Eintracht Frankfurt is challenged a day later at 1. FSV Mainz 05 (3.30 p.m.).
