For once, New York has a better overall record than Brooklyn at the start of the season. Enough to push a teammate of Evan Fournier to a clear and clean exit on the local rivals… We have known worse to heat the spirits before the battle of Gotham.
With only 4 wins for seven losses, the Nets are off to a pretty bad start in 2022-23. The sample is certainly still modest, but being only 11th in the Eastern Conference at this stage was clearly not part of the franchise’s plans. However, it is difficult to focus on what is happening on the ground in the current context… Because after the rumors of departure around Kevin Durant et Kyrie Irving during the summer, black and white fans were not given a break.
Instead, the superteam made headlines with the sacking of coach Steve Nash, whose relationship with his locker room had visibly reached the point of no return. Besides that, Uncle Drew is now suspended after promoting an anti-Semitic documentary… In other words, it’s a mess with BKN right now. Not enough to disturb their rivals from the Knicks however (5-5, 8th in the East), who face them tonight. Julius Randle in particular does not care about their misadventures:

It’s their problem. Ain’t no worries in Knicks country, baby.
Finding themselves regularly behind the local rival in the standings, we imagine that the players of Gotham are absolutely delighted to see Brooklyn struggling like this. That being said, be careful not to provoke KD & co too much. because on paper, they are far superior to Tom Thibodeau’s men. Especially since with a record of 0-5 against teams with a positive record, the Knickerbockers do not scare many people either, something that the fans reminded them of:

The Nets rule the roost in New York, let’s be clear
Julius Randle could not hide his satisfaction with the incessant drama on the side of the Nets, just before the derby between the two franchises. However, he may have stung the beast with this provocation, and it would not be surprising if he was targeted tonight…
