BBL: Many question marks at the Skyliners Frankfurt | hessenschau.de

The Skyliners Frankfurt started the season badly. Before the basement duel in Bamberg, the Hessians are now also worried about injuries. Perhaps the Frankfurters will still oblige.

Skyliners coach Geert Hammink gave his players a few days off last week. He wouldn’t have gotten really many players on the floor anyway. The Frankfurters went into the international break on the stick.

Hardly any time to prepare

“Of course we know what happened to Einaras (Tubutis, editor’s note), Lorenz (Brenneke) is injured and Martinas (Geben) also has a slight sprain,” Hammink counted in the club’s own Podcast the casualty list. With Lukas Wank and Joshua Obiesie, two German internationals are also traveling and will only be returning to Frankfurt this Tuesday.

The Hessians don’t have much time to prepare for the basement duel at the bottom of the table in Bamberg on Saturday (8.30 p.m.). After all, the Skyliners have a little hope that one or the other injured person will recover in time due to the extra days.

Obiesie celebrates national team debut

Skyliners guard Joshua Obiesie made his national team debut on Monday. The 22-year-old played ten minutes in the World Cup qualifier against Slovenia and scored three points. The Germans, who are already qualified for the World Cup, lost the game 75:81. Skyliners captain Lukas Wank was on the floor for almost 28 minutes (ten points).

Problems on the four – and on the five?

That shouldn’t be a problem for center giving, whose contract expires after the Bamberg game and with whom Frankfurt would like to extend. Winger Brenneke is a day-to-day decision, according to the club. For Power Forward Tubutis, who injured his inner knee ligament, 2022 is probably over.

For the Skyliners, this mixed situation raises the question of possible additional commitments. Without Tubutis and – if necessary – Brenneke, the four-man position is empty. If the hitherto strong Giving gets a better offer from a more successful club, there could still be some catching up to do in the five-man position.

The balance has to be right

Should the Skyliners find themselves forced to sign twice, both transfers must be coordinated to maintain balance within the team. Marco Völler, sports manager at the Bundesliga club, spoke to Frankfurt review from a “puzzle”. Every part has to fit perfectly into the other. “We don’t want to get anyone just to get someone,” the ex-pro clarified.

There are many indications that the Skyliners are traveling to Bamberg with familiar staff. And in Freak City, no easy task awaits the Hessians. Although the Upper Franconians, like the Hessians, only have one win to their credit, it was a 97:86 statement victory in Rostock on the last matchday. In Frankfurt they hope that the extra days off didn’t come in handy for Bamberg.
