The most important event in soccer has begun and the expectation to know who will be the team that will lift the cup increases, for this reason the Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology gave the squads of Argentina and Brazil as favorites.
With a model of 18 months of development and 50,000 simulations, Fromsolvers, a Peruvian company that develops artificial intelligence, predicts that Argentina and Brazil would be the candidates to win the World Cup with the best chances. In the exercise in the application of AI, Argentina won 9878 times and Brazil 9443, followed by France and England.
“Our model, which has 18 months of development, works on pre-match predictions, which uses historical data of the events that we consider important in our formulas. For example, statistics per player, team, game method, attacks, defenses, trends among others”, explains Jesús Mesias, founder of Fromsolvers, a Peruvian company dedicated to Artificial Intelligence and developer of high technologies.
How does artificial intelligence predict events in soccer?
AI uses two types of data to build predictive models, which are formulas that help us get results and predict an outcome before it happens.
The first type of data collected by the technology is, for example, the number of goals scored, the number of shots on goal or the number of attacks; among others. The second refers to the data considered to be more predictive, for example, the probability of a player scoring a goal in a certain position on the field or that of the goalkeeper of blocking a shot on target; just to mention a few without leaving out sophisticated metrics that are used by statistical teams.
