The German university championship in judo took place in Potsdam, Brandenburg. A strong field of 133 women and 233 men started there. The level ranged from beginner level to internationally experienced fighters, which is unique for such a large tournament.

Bad Aibling – Till Goldammer, himself a doctor, competed for TuS Bad Aibling in the “+100 kilogram” weight class, which was well-stocked with a total of 14 fighters. The athlete from Aibling, who is almost two meters tall and weighs around 150 kilograms, was able to end the first fight against Lennart Holeck from the University of Münster prematurely with a nice technique. In the next encounter, this time against the 2019 university champion, Fabian Meyer from the Lower Saxony Police Academy, he had to admit defeat. He thus moved into the consolation round, where he reached the small final, the fight for third place, after victories over Nikolay Orlov from the University of Giessen and Simon Schwertl from the University of Duisburg-Essen.

There he faced Marcus Christopher O’Connor from the University of Hanover, whom he finally defeated after a good start on the floor with a hold technique and thus secured third place and the bronze medal with four wins and one loss.

The victory in the heavyweight “+100 kilograms” went to Ivo Wittassek from the University of Potsdam, who was already the German runner-up in his career and is an athlete with national and international experience.

Third place is a great success for Goldammer, who also started for the KG Aibling-Grafing team this year and made the acclaimed promotion from the state league to the Bavarian league with his teammates.
