Águilas Upaep dominates Aztecas Udlap

By a difference of eight points, the Upaep Eagles won the first men’s basketball classic of the season against the Udlap Aztecs in a game held in El Nido.

The team, led by the experienced Javier Ceniceros, dominated the first quarter; however, it was not reflected on the scoreboard until the last minutes, thanks to triples by Armando Tirado, Erick Gómez, Javier García and Sadol Martínez, to finish 17-13 in favor of the locals.

The second quarter did not change, neither in the intensity of the teams, nor in the advantage for those of the Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla (Upaep), who went to halftime with 36-26, after Rangel’s three-point shots and Garcia Zavala. After halftime, the Aztecs responded and came dangerously close after four triples by Moreno, despite this, Upaep remained in the lead 54-49.

The last quarter was experienced as a true final. The Universidad de Las Américas (Udlap) was down one point (56-55), but the Águilas offensive responded at zero hour, led by Tirado, Martínez, Garcilla Zavala and Rangel, who put final figures 68 -60.

Javier García Zavala was Upaep’s best scorer with twelve points, a result with which the Águilas closed the first half of the season with a record of eight wins and seven losses.
