A 55-year-old climber from Trento crashes on the wall in Arco: the victim is Paolo Biondaro – Montagna

TRENTO. A 55-year-old climber from Trento, Paolo Biondaro, lost his life this morning (5 November) in an accident along the via Artemis on the Padaro face in Arco.

The man was climbing first of the rope and was tackling the third pitch of the route, when he fell for about ten / fifteen meters, presumably due to the loss of a hold. In the fall, a protection slipped off the wall and the climber fell even lower, a couple of meters below the belay of the second pitch, where the two climbing partners were. The alarm on the Single Emergency Number 112 was launched shortly after 11. Right from the start, the man’s conditions appeared very serious.

The Single Central of Trentino Emergenza, with the Coordinator of the Southern Trentino Operational Area of the Alpine and Speleological Rescue, asked for the helicopter to intervene, while the operators of the Riva del Garda station went to the pitch. The Helicopter Rescue Technician and the medical team were hoisted into the face further downstream from the climber, who was in a particularly uncomfortable spot, under a roof.

To reach it, the rescuers then climbed while, in the meantime, in a second rotation the helicopter transported two operators from the Riva del Garda and Ala stations to the site and an additional helicopter rescue technician to support rescue operations.

Despite the attempts at resuscitation, there was now nothing for the climber to do and the doctor could not help but ascertain the death. Once authorization was obtained from the authorities, the body was winched aboard the helicopter and transferred to Riva del Garda. The intervention ended around 14.45. The fire brigade and the police are also on site.
