The chaos beat football, once again. The match they were playing Gym y Boca in the Forest it stopped at 9′ of the PT when detonations began to be heard on the outskirts and tear gas filled the playing field. And after more than 40 minutes, due to the serious clashes that occurred between the people and the Police, with injuries and the unfortunate death of a 57-year-old fan, the game was definitively suspended. However, what does the regulation say Professional League in this kind of situation? When would it be played?

In article 42 section 3 of the LPF, it is determined that “all the matches corresponding to the season must be played within it WITHOUT EXCEPTION”at the same time that regarding the suspended games -like this case- it is clarified that “Suspended matches must be rescheduled on a mandatory basis before the last date of each tournament”.

The section of the regulation on suspended matches.

And in turn, subsection d) explains the modus operandi of matches in which the referee decides to suspend a match, leaving open the possibility that it could be resumed the day after the suspension. “(…) The suspended match must be played in the first instance the following day, leaving the setting of the schedule to the discretion of the Board of Directors of the LPF, even if the companies awarded the audiovisual rights state their inability to broadcast the match in said day and time“.

Thus, it will be the Professional League that finally determines the place, day and time in which the remaining 81 minutes between Lobo and Xeneize could be played, although it is clear that it must be before the end of the tournament. Although at one point it was speculated that it could be played this Friday at 11 behind closed doors, that was ruled out around midnight. “In no way will it be played tomorrow – on Friday“, assured the head of the Aprevide, Eduardo Aparicio.

So what day could the match be completed? On Wednesday, October 19, the day that Boca was scheduled to play against Patronato for the semifinal of the Copa Argentina. That would be between the penultimate and last date. On Sunday the 16th, Boca will play against Newell’s for the 26th. And on Monday the 17th, Gimnasia will receive Argentinos. Two days later the meeting would resume. And the next weekend the tournament will end.
