Stuttgart scared off the next coach candidate

VfB’s coach-finding-commission has conceded the next basket!

According to BILD information, Sebastian Hoeneß (40) also canceled the Swabians on Thursday evening. Hoeneß was in the focus of the bosses from the start as a possible successor to the fired Pellegrino Matarazzo (44), and is said to have been on a so-called shortlist. His father and advisor Dieter Hoeneß (69) is said to have told CEO Alexander Wehrle (47) by telephone that his son was no longer available for the post.

For Hoeneß, who used to play in the VfB youth team, the job would have been attractive.

But there is a general problem: VfB’s hesitant approach can quickly give the impression that a candidate is only a second choice. Under such conditions extremely difficult to compete as a coach. Domenico Tedesco (37), Tuchel assistant coach Zsolt Löw (43) and Nagelsmann assistant coach Dino Topmöller (41) have already canceled the VfB.

With Wehrle (47), sports director Sven Mislintat (49) and consultants Sami Khedira (35) and Philipp Lahm (38) four experts are looking for the Matarazzo successor. So far, they’ve mostly stood in each other’s way…

► Wehrle and his advisors want a savior who will quickly bring VfB (17th place, no win) out of the basement.

► Mislintat wants a developer. He says: “Not for a few games or half a year, but preferably for another 1000 days.”

So far, there is no candidate that everyone likes. That’s why ex-coach Michael Wimmer (42) is on the bench against Bochum on Saturday. Let’s see how much longer he has to help out…
