VfB Stuttgart: After bankruptcy: Matarazzo says goodbye to the team | Sports

Were those Matarazzo’s parting words?

Nine games, no win. VfB fell to 17th place. After the 1-0 defeat against Union Berlin, the air for Pellegrino Matarazzo (44) is getting thinner and thinner. The coach’s words after the game sound like a farewell:

“I wish the team every success from the bottom of my heart. These are all great guys, great people. I’m very optimistic that they can win against Bochum. It doesn’t matter who’s on the bench.”

As BILD learned, the VfB bosses want to discuss on Sunday evening whether Matarazzo will continue. Sports director Sven Mislintat (49) also gives no job guarantee: “I love Rino, he has my full support. But I don’t decide that alone. In the end it’s like this: we have to deliver.”

And VfB has not managed to do that recently, in the calendar year 2022 there are only three victories. The Matarazzo team didn’t play badly against leaders Union either, but in the end they were left empty-handed because Paul Jaeckel (76th minute) headed in from a corner.

Inexplicable: Against a tired opponent (played 45 minutes outnumbered in Malmö on Thursday), VfB once again ran fewer kilometers than the opponent (111:119). The fans reacted frustrated. There were a lot of whistles and the occasional “Trainer out” shout.

It is very possible that the bosses will now listen to these calls and present a new coach against the bottom team on Saturday.

Mega-Fallrückzieher So beautiful, but unfortunately not in it!
