Van Gerwen to World Grand Prix semi-final | Darts

Michael van Gerwen got off to a flying start and quickly took a 2-0 lead in the first set. He still gave this one away, but in the end he kept the set he started by himself. Dobey did the same in his own set and also gave up a 2-0 lead. In the deciding leg, neither of them showed their best play, but Dobey stood up at the right moment to tie the score.

Van Gerwen then won his own set again, but then missed a chance to break his challenger immediately. The decisive break came moments later, when Dobey threw himself from one hundred and thus offered Van Gerwen an excellent opportunity. With a finish of 105 (bull and two tops), the Dutchman then finished it off.

Van Gerwen will face world champion Peter Wright in the semifinals. The Scot won 3-2 in sets against Belgian Dimitri Van den Bergh in his quarterfinals and showed his confidence earlier this week. “I don’t think anyone can beat me this week. They are all not good enough.” The other semi-final is between Gerwyn Price from Wales and the Englishman Nathan Aspinall.

The World Grand Prix is one of the major tournaments of the professional association PDC, with 600,000 British pounds (almost 700,000 euros) in the prize pool. Van Gerwen has already won the tournament five times.
