Upaep wins 3 of 4 duels in Monterrey

Three victories was the balance that the men’s and women’s basketball Eagles had in their visit to the Sultana del Norte. The girls returned to Puebla with the wins against Tec Monterrey and UANL, while the men beat Tigres and lost to Borregos.

In the duel against Las Borregas, Upaep’s team had to row against the current during practically the entire match, even in the third quarter they had a difference of ten points against them.

With the game 58-57 in favor of the locals and with 2:28 on the clock, Arandy Rivas turned the score around with a triple and, on the next possession, Rebeca Colunga also scored from outside the paint to make a difference of five and close the score (63-58) with a good defense.

Throughout the game, Diana Villalobos had an effectiveness of 50 percent in triples, scoring five of ten and was the best scorer of the game with 22 points. For her part, Diana Cano got a double-double with ten points and eleven rebounds

The second half was very even. The Eagles were taking off and the UANL was getting closer, even taking a 56-54 lead in the last quarter with 6:51 on the clock. Cano and Fierro scored five points each and Gloria García had four points to seal the victory 68-59.

Regarding the men’s branch, after losing against the Borregos 64-59, the Eagles recovered and got the victory by 66-80 against the UANL Tigers. Until the middle of the third quarter the game was even, both teams had the advantage, but without being able to take off on the scoreboard. With the game 40-41, Sadol Martínez and Javier García Zavala each scored eight points (including four triples) and gave the Pueblans a nine-point margin.

On October 13 will be the next game for Upaep, when they visit the Pumas UNAM at the Frontón Coyoacán at 6:00 p.m.
