Ukraine could join Spain and Portugal in the bid for the 2030 World Cup

Ukraine could join the joint candidacy of Spain and Portugal to host the World Cup in 2030as revealed on Monday by the English newspaper ‘The Times’, which indicates that the country, currently at war with Russia, would be responsible for hosting one of the groups.

The prestigious newspaper points out that this idea has the support of the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyand of the governments of the two Iberian countries in a proposal that “takes advantage of the idea that football can restore hope and peace”.

This new association could be officially announced this Wednesday in Nyon (Switzerland), UEFA headquarters, when the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) announced this Monday that they were going to give a press conference to “update information” on this candidacy, with the presence of their respective presidents, Luis Rubiales y Fernando Gomez.

‘The Times’ indicates that although security guarantees would be needed in Ukraineit is expected that by the time this World Cup is held, in eight years’ time, the Russian invasion will have ended and the country will have begun its reconstruction.
