Head of Public Relations Police Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo said the two members who died during security duty at the stadium KanjuruhanMalang, East Java caused by lack of oxygen.
The two members are Posthumous Aipda Andik Purwanto, Tulungagung Police Officer and Posthumous Brigadier Fajar Yoyok Pujiono, Trenggalek Police Officer.
Dedi said that the two members received extraordinary promotions based on the telegram number ST/742/X/KEP/2022. Both have also been buried officially.
“Yes, because of the lack of oxygen, it resulted, yes, most of them died due to lack of oxygen,” said Dedi at the Malang Resort Police, Monday (3/10).
Dedi also revealed that the two members of the National Police were found dead while jostling with Arema FC supporters at Gate 12 of the stadium.
“It was the same as the 43 people who were huddled together at Gate 12,” he said.
The riot at the Kanjuruhan Stadium occurred after the Arema FC vs. Persebaya match, Saturday (1/10) night. This incident left 125 people dead.
This tragedy began when the officers fired tear gas – based on testimony also at the stands – to dispel the chaotic crowds on the field after Arema’s match against Persebaya.
The spectators in the stands, panicked by the tear gas, rushed to the stadium’s restricted exit. Many spectators experienced shortness of breath, fell, and were trampled to death.
The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, immediately removed the Malang Police Chief AKBP Ferli Hidayat in the aftermath of this incident. The mutation is stated in the telegram number ST/2098/X/KEP/2022.
In the telegram, Tanjung Priok Port Police Chief AKBP Putu Kholis Aryana was lined up to replace Ferli’s position, who was transferred to Pamen Polri HR.
In addition, the East Java Police Chief Inspector General Nico Afinta also disabled nine Brimob commanders in the aftermath of the tragedy. On the other hand, as many as 28 Polri personnel are also being investigated by Itsus and the Paminal Bureau regarding alleged violations of the code of ethics.
