Monte Plata, general champion international judo cup

SANTO DOMINGO. The Monte Plata delegation took first place in the 2022 National and International Judo Cup held over the weekend in Bayaguana with the participation of just over 219 athletes from 16 local associations and three invited nations.

Monte Plata judokas accumulated a total of 2,544 points, product of 24 gold medals, 12 silver and 24 bronze, to seize the great cup.

The international contest was organized by the Judo Association of Bayaguana, chaired by sports leader Ruddy Contreras, and was endorsed by the Dominican Judo Federation.

The second place in general fell to the representation of the National District, with six gold metals, two silver and a couple of bronze, for a total of 622 points.

With 342 points, after accumulating three gold, four silver and two bronze medals, the team from San Juan de la Maguana finished in third place, while Barahona, with three gold medals and the same number of bronze medals, was fourth with 303 points.

The fifth step was occupied by the province of Independencia, which finished with three gold medals and one bronze, for 301 points, while Azua and San Cristóbal shared sixth place, with 241 points, ending with two gold medals, four silver and one bronze each delegation.

Judokas from 16 associations affiliated with Fedojudo participated in the traditional tournament, including Monseñor Nouel, María Trinidad Sánchez, San Pedro de Macorís, Duarte province, La Vega, Santiago, La Romana, Santo Domingo and Samaná, among others, as well as from Haiti.

The competitions were held on Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1 at the Doctor Fidel Mejía Sports Complex in Bayaguana.
