The Gijón Open ATP 250 is also serving to recognize all those personalities who put tennis on the front page at some point. That was the case of Lolina Menchaca, a pioneer who in 1920 became champion of Spain after beating Lilí Álvarez in Gijón, who would later be a finalist at Wimbledon.
