TOLEDO, 10 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Councilor for Sports, Pablo García, has participated this Monday in the presentation of the VI National Wheelchair Paddle Open that will be held in Toledo from October 14 to 16, organized by Aspaym Toledo in collaboration with the City Council, the Community Board , the Provincial Council, the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation and the Imperial Max-I Pádel Club of the capital.

The presentation was also attended by the General Director of Sports of Castilla-La Mancha, Carlos Yuste; President Aspaym Toledo, José Ramón del Pino; the person in charge of Social Action of CaixaBank in Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura, Cesar Jimeno, and the director responsible for the Imperial Max-I Pádel Club, Maxi Grabiel, the City Council has informed in a press release.

From the facilities of the club that will host the event, Pablo García thanked the Provincial Association of People with Spinal Cord Injury and/or Severe Physical Disability (Aspaym Toledo) for organizing this tournament, in addition to their daily work, since sport acts as social engine and as an escape route for those who suffer spinal cord injury.

“Not only does it help them to recover physically but also mentally,” he explained, which is why, on behalf of the Government of Milagros Tolón, he has valued the “incredible” work carried out by the entire Aspaym team throughout the province and especially in the National Hospital for Paraplegics in Toledo.

Likewise, he highlighted the City Council’s commitment to inclusive sport and equality and thus referred to the celebration in the capital of such important competitions as the Iberdrola Cup for Women’s Badminton Clubs, the Spanish Championship of Paralympic Promises in Athletics or the I National Open of inclusive canoeing to be held this weekend.

Yuste has described this as a “high point” in terms of the sports that are being developed in the region. “We are hosting many meetings, and all of them of great quality”, he has valued.

For his part, the head of Social Action at CaixaBank in Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura underlined “the support, for the sixth year, of the “la Caixa” Foundation, through CaixaBank, for this championship, which highlights the importance of sport, especially with people with different abilities”.

This type of sporting event would not be possible without the collaboration between administrations, referring to the joint work with the Board and the Provincial Council, and without the support of sponsors and private sponsors, thanking the involvement in this case of the Toledo paddle club and the Foundation ‘The Caixa’.

The VI National Open of Pádel in Wheelchairs that will take place in the facilities of the Club Imperial Max-I Pádel de Toledo will have 16 couples this year, ten of them, of the best in the ranking. It is a test that is scored in the Federated Cup of Spain of wheelchair paddle tennis of the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities

The objective of the initiative is to promote adapted sport as a factor for social insertion and to favor the rehabilitation and improvement of the physical condition of people with physical disabilities in Castilla-La Mancha, to highlight the abilities of each person and to encourage training, discipline and improvement in this group taking into account that this sports modality has become part of an official sport within the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities.
