Three racers hospitalized after a crash

Dhe DTM season finale at Hockenheim was overshadowed by a serious accident involving six people. Three affected drivers, David Schumacher (Bergheim), Rolf Ineichen (Switzerland) and Dennis Olsen (Norway) were taken to the hospital for further examinations. A DTM spokeswoman confirmed this to the Sport Information Service.

Ineichen was taken away by helicopter because of a possible back injury. According to initial information, three other drivers involved were uninjured. Championship candidate Thomas Preining (Austria) was eliminated in the crash and his chances of winning the title were dashed.

An employee on the track in Hockenheim suffered “a forearm injury” in a fall, but the fall was not related to the accident on the track. The race was initially interrupted with a red flag and continued after lengthy clean-up work.

Porsche driver Preining collided with David Schumacher, both of whom slid into the barriers at high speed. Pilots driving behind could not avoid it. In the event of an impact, the engine of Olsen’s Porsche was thrown onto the track and briefly caught fire.
