The prosecutor’s office wanted to get Neymar a two-year prison sentence and a ten million euro fine for alleged fraud, when the footballer moved from the Brazilian club “Santos” to “Barceona” in 2013. The complaint was filed by Brazilian investment company DIS, which owned 40% of the rights to Neymar when he moved to Spain. DIS believed that Neymar’s transfer amount had been reduced, therefore the company suffered losses.

“There is not the slightest sign of a crime here,” said prosecutor Luis Garcia Canton, asking the judge to “acquit all the accused.”

Together with Neymar, the former president of “Barcelona” Sandro Rosell, who faced five years in prison and a fine of 8.4 million euros, was also acquitted.

At the beginning of the trial, DIS wanted Neymar to receive a five-year prison sentence and demanded 149 million euros from the footballer.

The agency “Reuters” reports that Neymar could now file a counterclaim, demanding compensation for the unjustified accusations.
