Crystal BicycleThe icing on a delicious cake. Vuelta winner and world champion Remco Evenepoel (22) now sees his 2022 farming year crowned with a second Kristallen Fiets, after a first triumph in 2019. He succeeds Wout van Aert on the honors list.
The Circulation. The E3 Saxo Bank Classic. On the podium in Roubaix and Liège. A phenomenal Tour, with two stage wins and the green jersey. And what without the corona infection a few days before the Tour of Flanders… Wout van Aert’s season was one of the best and would have sufficed for a third consecutive Kristallen Fiets almost every other year.
But Van Aert is unlucky that Remco Evenepoel also had a real grand cru year. With Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Evenepoel won his first Monument in the spring, but in the summer he really strengthened his candidacy. In a period of two months, Evenepoel put the Clasica San Sebastian – for the second time -, the Vuelta and the World Cup on his palmares. Enough for a second Kristallen Fiets, after he already took home the trophy in 2019. On the honors list, he is the successor to Van Aert, who won the past two years.
