The alevín Jorge Gil, from the CSB, summoned by the Castilla y León Basketball Federation

Junior Jorge Gil, from the Soria Basketball Club, has been summoned by the Basketball Federation of Castilla y León to participate in the technical concentration that the regional minibasket pre-selection will hold, at the San Isidro Sports Center in Valladolid, on October 29. Once again having one of its players in such a select group – only twenty-six players have been called up and only seven of the nine provinces of Castilla y León are represented – is a real accolade for the CSB, which was founded in 2015 with the main goal for basketball to become the sport of choice for an increasing number of boys and girls.

Gil is a second-year junior and is enrolled this season in the CSB Infantil Masculine B which, under the command of Gonzalo de Domingo and José Javier Carnicero, competes in the Second Division Regional Championship. Last season, when he made his debut in the category, he was part of the Soria Basketball Club Alevín, with which he was proclaimed champion of the Castilla y León mini-basketball Cup. At 11 years old, Gil already participated in the concentration that during the past Holy Week -from April 15 to 17- brought together 76 players from the region in the town of Béjar, Salamanca. In this same place, at the beginning of June, the Castilla y León PRD National Team Championship was held, to which the CSB player attended as part of the Soria provincial team.

Palencia, with seven players, is the province that contributes the most players to a pre-selection in which Burgos (six), Valladolid (five), León (four), Salamanca (two) and Segovia (one) are also represented. None of the twenty-six players born in 2011 who are going to exercise under the orders of the Technical Department of the Castilla y León Basketball Federation comes from Ávila or Zamora. Concentrations such as the one that will take place in Valladolid will serve to determine who are the twelve chosen to form the Castilla y León team that will participate, in April 2023, in the Spanish Championship of Regional Minibasket Selections.

In the history of Club Soria Basketball there is an increasing number of players from different categories who have entered the plans of the Technical Area of the Basketball Federation of Castilla y León. These are the cases of Hugo García de Gregorio, who came to compete in an entire Spanish Championship, and eight other players who continue to be integrated into the Soria entity: the junior Hugo Soto, the cadet Olivia Gómez, the children’s Edith Martínez, Diego Valero , Víctor Chamarro, Marcos Hoyuelos and Gonzalo Gómez and the still alevín Tamar Martínez. Jorge Gil also played last week, with CSB Trebia and against Iveco Real Valladolid Baloncesto Violeta, the opening match of the Pre-Infant Regional Championship.
