Tennis.-Ecovidrio and Kosmos present a plan to turn the Davis Cup into a “sustainable event” – Publimetro México

MADRID, 14 (EUROPA PRESS)

“Green is the color of Davis on the outside and we want it to be on the inside as well. The competition reached an agreement in 2019 with Ecovidrio to work on making a sustainable event and since then initiatives have been carried out in favor of sustainability, something that should concern us all,” said the tournament director, David Ferrer, in a statement issued by the organization.

The former player insisted that “taking care of the planet” is a task “for everyone, including the tournament”, to “propose improvements” for future editions of the Davis Cup. “It is clear that society and citizens increasingly demand gestures in favor of our planet,” he added.

The plan presented at the Malaga City Council, with the presence of Ferrer and the Limasam authorities and the city council, the Malaga Provincial Council and the Andalusian Government, under the name ‘Make it Green’, focuses on eight key objectives that are translated into sustainability measures adapted for the occasion.

Among them is awareness for responsible consumption, emission reduction, waste management or the fight against food waste. This action plan includes various initiatives such as the measurement for the first time of the carbon footprint generated during the event, guaranteeing continuous improvement, preventing and reducing the emissions caused, and strengthening the commitment in the fight against climate change.

In addition, a glass tennis court recycled by the people of Malaga will be built in the city’s green containers, made up of more than 22,000 kilos of containers. The dance floor will be open to the public from mid-November on Calle Actress La Tirana in Malaga.

Likewise, Kosmos has also reached an agreement with Infinite Athletic for the collection of the racket strings by the stringers, which will allow the recovery of more than 4,000 meters of string. They will later be transformed into sustainable and recyclable recycled tennis garments, saving 68 percent water and 50 percent CO2, according to the statement.

Finally, collection points for glass containers will be set up, and for every three containers, the people of Malaga will get a free double ticket for the quarterfinal matches of the tournament.
