Tennis: a former leader indicted for rape, the FFT is a civil party

After the French Football Federation, that of tennis is plunged into the turmoil of a sex scandal in its ranks. Jean-Pierre Dartevelle, former vice president of the federation and member of its Superior Council, was indicted on Wednesday for “rape and sexual abuse of a minor”. The FFT filed a civil action on Thursday in a possible trial.

“The examining magistrate transmitted her file at the end of the investigation last month”, indicated the parquet floor of Montbéliard (Doubs), confirming the indictment of Mr. Dartevelle, 72 years old. A case that dates back several years. It was in September 2018 that this notable was placed in police custody, as part of an investigation against X, on the count of corruption of a minor and sexual abuse of a minor over the age of 15.

Former footballer, president of the Franche-Comté Tennis League and candidate for the presidency of the FFT in 2005 and 2017, Dartevelle is suspected by the courts of having taken advantage of his hold on a young 16-year-old player at the time, today 22, and to have maintained with her “a sordid relationship”, according to a source close to the file. Until February 2021, he held a position on the Superior Tennis Council of the FFT. After advice from the prosecution, the investigating judge should rule in the coming months on a possible trial at the assizes of the former leader.
