Tadej Pogacar wins the Three Vares Valleys before the Tour of Lombardy

Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE) won the Three Valleys Varesine race in a sprint on Tuesday, October 4 in Varese, four days from defending his crown in the Tour of Lombardy, the last “Monument” of the cycling season. The double winner of the Tour de France (2020, 2021) capped on the line, at the end of the 196 km of this 101st edition, the Colombian Sergio Higuita (Bora) and the Spaniard Alejandro Valverde (Movistar), passed very close to the victory for the penultimate race of his career before bowing out on Saturday in Lombardy. The other future retiree of the peloton, Vincenzo Nibali (Astana), also attempted the coup by escaping 3.5 km from the finish but was quickly caught by the peloton of favorites, led by the Movistar. Pogacar, 24, signs the 45th victory of his career.
