Cn Tuesday, October 25, at the end of the morning, the fire truck siren sounded in Aire-sur-la-Lys. Four barracks (Aire, Lillers, Saint-Omer and Saint-Venant) were mobilized for a fire at the regional sports complex. The flames were quickly extinguished.
According to the first elements, workers employed to renovate the roof unintentionally set fire to the siding of the buildingcomposed of stainless steel blades on a frame of boards.
Two workers were rescued by firefighters. One of them, injured in the finger, was transported to the Helfaut hospital center. The second, unharmed, was not hospitalized.
To verify that the fire was extinguished, the firefighters cut part of the cladding.
When the fire broke out, 22 volunteers of the badminton league were in the gym. A two-day course is taking place at the moment, and they were preparing the trainees’ meal.
Following the disaster, the course will finally take place at the Berton room, and the trainees will be welcomed at the Sainte-Marie high school for the meal.
